antimicrobial activity, and antiproliferative activity against humantumor cell lines. In this paper, we describe the taxonomy of the producing organism, fermentation, isolation, physico-chemical properties and biological activities ofUCS1025A and B. The cultural and taxonomical characteristics of the producing fungal strain KY4917 were as follows. Colonies on 2% malt extract agar medium are 28 to 31mmin diameter after culturing at 25°C for 2 weeks. The surface of the colony is grayish brown at the center and beige or grayish white at the margin. The color of the reverse of the colony is reddish brown at the center and grayish brown at the margin. Soluble orange pigment is produced in the medium. Colonies on Potato-glucose agar medium are about 25mm in diameter after culturing at 25°C for 2 weeks. The color of the colony surface is cream or pale brown at the center and gray at the margin. The color of the reverse of the colony is pale brown to brown at the center and grayish white at the margin. Smooth and colorless hyphae are developed on Potato glucose agar medium. The hyphae are septate and wellbranched. Conidia are produced at the tip of phialides developing from the hyphae. Typically forming single orthotropic phialides. Phialides are hyaline, smooth, 10 to

Halymecins, new antimicroalgal substances produced by fungi isolated from marine algae.
Novel antimicroalgal substances halymecins A (1), B (2) and C (3) were isolated from the fermentation broth of a Fusarium sp. and halymecins D (4) and E (5) from an Acremonium sp. The structures of these halymecins, Fig. 1, were determined based on extensive 2D NMR studies as well as mass spectral data. These chemical structures are conjugates of di- and trihydroxydecanoic acid. Halymecin A sho...
متن کاملCell-free ring expansion of penicillin N to deacetoxycephalosporin C by Cephalosporium acremonium CW-19 and its mutants.
To examine microbiological ring expansion of penicillin N to a cephalosporin, we obtained five mutants of Cephalosporium acremonium blocked in beta-lactam antibiotic biosynthesis from 2500 survivors of mutagenesis. In submerged fermentation, mutants M-0198, M-0199, and M-2351 produced no beta-lactam antibiotic (type A), whereas mutants M-1443 and M-1836 formed penicillin N but not cephalosporin...
متن کاملAcremines H-N, novel prenylated polyketide metabolites produced by a strain of Acremonium byssoides
Five novel metabolites, acremines H–N, have been isolated from malt extract–peptone–glucose agar cultures of a strain of Acremonium byssoides. Their structures and stereochemistry were elucidated using a combination of 13C and 1H homo and heteronuclear 2D NMR experiments. Acremines H–N inhibited the germination of sporangia of Plasmopara viticola. 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
متن کاملJBIR-37 and -38, novel glycosyl benzenediols, isolated from the sponge-derived fungus, Acremonium sp. SpF080624G1f01.
In the course of our chemical screening program for new secondary metabolites, we isolated new compounds JBIR-37 (1) and -38 (2) from a culture broth of the marine sponge-derived fungus, Acremonium sp. SpF080624G1f01. The structures of 1 and 2 were determined to be di- and mono-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyloxy-4-(1,1-dimethyl-2-propenyl)benzene on the basis of extensive NMR and MS spectroscopic data,...
متن کاملIncorporation of acetate into cephalosporin C.
Cephalosporin C, an antibiotic with structure (I) (Abraham & Newton, 1961; Hodgkin & Maslen, 1961), was first isolated from an impure preparation of the chemically related penicillin NJ [(D-4amino-4-carboxybutyl)penicillin] that had been obtained from the culture fluid of a Cephalosporium sp. (Newton & Abraham, 1956; Abraham & Newton, 1956). The amount of cephalosporin C produced by this organi...
